
Western Rider Level 1
Course Description
This course will be of interest to all riders or future riders who wish to improve their knowledge and skill in the basics of good Western Equitation. Topics in this course: Basic Western Rider Position, two methods of holding the Western Style reins; One-Handed and Two-Handed Position, how to use Rider Aids, the application of aids, and how they affect the response of the horse, and much more.

Disclaimer: To obtain the Western Rider 1 Certification through the Equestrian Canada Learn To Ride program, candidates must be able to demonstrate the following tasks(see list here) and complete a written exam at an assessment successfully (this course will assist students in preparing for this assessment by providing the theory aspect for each task. A Certificate of Completion is generated upon completion of each course. A passing grade of 80% is required (unlimited attempts to achieve this).
