COURSE DESCRIPTION
A Therapeutic Riding Instructor must possess extraordinary teaching techniques and powers of inner strength and sensitivity. A Therapeutic Riding Instructor’s prerequisite is an adequate knowledge of physical and non-physical disabilities and how they influence teaching equestrian skills. A Therapeutic Riding Instructor works not only with riders but with a myriad of volunteers from varied social, economic, and vocational backgrounds, and should exhibit above-average intra-personal relationship skills.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to;
- Identify the prerequisite required for a Therapeutic Riding Instructor.
- Understand the principles of teaching people with disabilities.
- Understand the principles of teaching volunteers who assist Therapeutic Riding Instructors in a lesson.
- Identify the objective of coaching a rider.
- Identify the objective in training, schooling, and lunging a horse.
- Develop and write a complete lesson plan, that will include; methods of delivery, teaching aids, and use of games.
- Discuss the medical condition of the rider that is seen in a Therapeutic Riding Program.
- Understand and explain the benefits of Therapeutic Riding.
The Therapeutic Riding Instructor Course will be of interest to current or future Equestrian Instructors wanting to improve their knowledge and skill in providing safe, methodical practices seen in most successful Therapeutic Riding Programs.
Recommended Prerequisites: Stable Management Basics & Advanced, English & Western Rider Levels 1-4, Therapeutic Riding Aspects, Horse Handler Volunteer Training.
