COURSE DESCRIPTION
The primary concern for any Therapeutic Riding Program is a well-trained group of volunteers, who can make a difficult class a pleasant experience and reward for all. The preferred method to educate volunteers for the riding portion of the program is to have a session when no riders are present. The Horse Handler/ Side-Walker Volunteer Training Course is not meant to replace the hands-on training that is required by all Therapeutic Riding Programs but was designed to complement it.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to;
- Define why people volunteer.
- Understand the general rules seen in a Therapeutic Riding Program.
- Understand your role, rights, and responsibility as a volunteer in a Therapeutic Riding Program.
- Understand guidelines, policies, and procedures, that usually apply for a Therapeutic Riding Program.
- Define the expected orientation and training required prior to working with a horse in a Therapeutic Riding Program.
- Describe “The Team Approach” that is instrumental in providing an enjoyable riding lesson for all participants.
The Horse Handler/Side-Walker Training Course will be of interest to current and future Therapeutic Riding Programs, Volunteers, and Therapeutic Riding Instructors, who want to improve their skills and understanding of a risk management protocol that should be seen in all Therapeutic Riding Programs.
